Barbados

The offshore that signs treaties: a low-tax Caribbean jurisdiction that isn't a tax haven — and holds double-taxation agreements with the US, the UK, Canada and China. Built for structures that need treaty relief, not just a zero.

Incorporation in Barbados

Getting started

Procedure +

The path from first call to live company, in order:

1. Initial consultation and engagement — 2. Settlement of the invoice — 3. For remote setups, notarisation of the power of attorney on your side — 4. We prepare the registration documents — 5. Signing before the notary — 6. The company is valid on the register immediately.

Duration +

5–10 working days on average for the registration; run fully remotely, plan on around two weeks end to end — courier time for the original power of attorney included.

Remote incorporation +

Fully remote on a notarised power of attorney: we draft it for your chosen services, you certify it (apostilled where your country demands full legalisation), we verify, and you courier us the physical original. Barbados sits inside the Hague Apostille Convention — one stamp, recognised worldwide.

Required information +

Three things get the file moving: three name options for the company plus a contact email; the names, addresses and emails of all shareholders and board members; and a short description of the activity. That's the whole intake form.

Documents +

Passport scans of all shareholders and board members, plus the beneficial owner where applicable; the power of attorney for remote registration; and certified corporate documents where a shareholder is itself a foreign company.

Facts about Barbados

Know before you register

Taxes — territorial for non-residents +

A non-resident company pays tax only on income derived in Barbados — earn abroad, and the local rate conversation never starts. Payments flowing out of Barbados carry withholding for specific streams: 15% on interest, royalties and dividends from taxed profits, 10% on branch profits. Low effective taxation by design — not a fictional zero, and that's precisely what keeps the flag respectable.

Double tax treaties — the real asset +

Here's what €4,990 buys that €990 flags can't: a treaty network reaching the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, China, Switzerland (via the UK treaty's extension), Norway, Sweden, Finland, Malta, Mauritius, Venezuela, Cuba, Botswana — and the whole Caribbean Community. When your counterparties sit in highly taxed countries, treaty relief is worth more than any headline rate.

Accounting & audit +

The obligations are real: every company with share capital files an annual return with the Registrar and pays a renewal fee, and regular reporting is mandatory. A treaty jurisdiction earns its treaties by keeping books — and our accounting package carries the calendar so you never feel it.

Substance & residency +

Featherweight: a non-resident company needs only a registered address in Barbados — which we provide, with our team local on the ground. No resident directors, no office, no local hires.

FAQ

About Barbados registration

Can I register an International Business Company (IBC) in Barbados? +

No — and beware of anyone still selling one: the IBC Act of 1991 has been repealed. The vehicle today is the non-resident regular company, which is exactly what we register — the current law, not the brochure from a decade ago.

Is Barbados a tax haven? +

No — there is no tax-free regime here, just genuinely low taxation under the right conditions, plus real ownership discretion. That's the trade: a few points of tax in exchange for treaties and a flag that doesn't raise eyebrows.

What about the EU and OECD lists? +

Barbados is not on the EU's blacklist. The asterisk worth knowing: OECD transparency reviews have graded it "partially compliant" on standards around registers, accounts and ownership information. We tell you where every jurisdiction actually stands — then you decide with open eyes.

What is a good alternative to Barbados? +

Depends what you're optimising: Cayman for the pure zero, Costa Rica for clean-listed territoriality at half the price, Mauritius for a treaty network with a 3% rate. One call and we'll shortlist it against your business model — including if the answer isn't Barbados.
