Incorporation in Bahrain

Getting started

Duration — the honest clock +

We won't promise a one-day miracle — the clock starts when your documents are complete, and that's true in every jurisdiction. From that moment: 1–3 working days locally, 7–10 working days remotely. Sector licences, where your activity needs one, run on their own timeline — which we map out for you before anything is signed.

Procedure +

Three decisions and the machine starts: initial consultation and engagement — settlement of the invoice — your choice between travelling to Bahrain or acting through a representative under power of attorney. From there, we run the file.

Remote incorporation +

Fully possible: registration proceeds through a representative holding your power of attorney or a professional body — and we manage the entire process on your behalf, from filing to handover.

Required information +

Three things get the file moving: three name options for the company plus a contact email; the names, addresses and emails of all shareholders and board members; and a short description of the activity. That's the whole intake form.

VAT — the 10% to plan around +

Bahrain runs VAT at a standard 10% (doubled from 5% in January 2022). Registration is mandatory above BHD 37,500 in annual taxable supplies, voluntary from BHD 18,750 — and below that threshold you can't register at all, which means no charging VAT and no recovering it on expenses. Returns file monthly or quarterly per the cycle the NBR assigns; our accounting package keeps the rhythm.

Documents +

Passport scans of all shareholders and board members, plus the beneficial owner where applicable; the power of attorney for remote registration; and certified corporate documents where a shareholder is itself a foreign company.

Facts about Bahrain

Know before you register

Taxes — zero, with one famous exception +

The rule is refreshingly short: no corporate income tax in Bahrain — 0% on all activities. The exception is equally clear: oil companies pay 46%. Unless you're drilling, the headline stays zero. One footnote for the biggest players: multinational groups above roughly €750M in global revenue face the Gulf-wide 15% minimum tax introduced in 2025 — for everyone else, nothing changes.

Double tax treaties +

A network of around 27 double-taxation agreements: the United Kingdom, France, Ireland, Belgium, China, Singapore, Malaysia, Mexico, Turkey, Egypt and much of the wider region. Rare among zero-tax flags — treaty relief on top of a zero rate.

Accounting & audit — real books, real audit +

Bahrain is onshore-serious about records: books kept locally (original journal, general ledger), and audited financial statements filed annually with the Ministry of Commerce — by an auditor licensed and physically present in Bahrain. One local quirk to know: 10% of annual profit goes into a statutory reserve until it reaches half the paid-up capital. Our accounting and audit arrangements carry all of it.

Substance & residency +

No residency restrictions for shareholders or directors, and 100% foreign ownership — with only a handful of protected industries excepted. The single local requirement: a registered office in Bahrain, which we provide.

FAQ

About Bahrain registration

Can a foreigner own a company in Bahrain? +

Yes — 100% foreign ownership in most sectors, and you don't even need to board a plane: the whole registration runs remotely through a representative under power of attorney.

What are the benefits of a Bahrain company? +

The Gulf trifecta: a strategic position in the Middle East, a steadily growing economy inside the GCC market — and running costs notably lower than the flashier neighbours. Dubai's address premium, without paying it.

What is the corporate tax rate? +

Zero — no corporate income tax in Bahrain, with the single exception of oil companies at 46%. VAT at 10% applies to domestic supplies above the registration thresholds.

How much does a Bahrain setup cost? +

Formation here is famously affordable for the region — from €3,300 with us — but the final figure follows the project: licences, personnel, banking. Describe the venture and a precise quote comes back within one business day.
